News Business as Usual Summer is winding down so its back to the grind stone. I spent the last couple weeks to sought full time employment and thus far, Im amazed at how many positions were available. The job market seems to be improving and the fact that people are starting to acknowlege my services again is a clear indication that good things will follow. Amongst all the travelling and family visitation, I have placed Project Melville on temporaily hold until I can settle a few things regarding my finances and family situation. Rest assure, I hope production will resume sometime this Fall or whenever the mood strikes me =P . In the meantime, voice recordings shall continue so the consistency is still in tact. There is another possible chance I might be getting my second round in Hollywood, but more details will be provided once I recieve verification on the situation. On a side note, head on over to my DeviantArt page for something special ;)
Status Report
Melville is on the Horizon
A couple of friends of mine have offered their assistance with a new project I'm working on. Though its too early in the development stage to provide details, I will say that its something that has never been done before. Inspiration dawned on me when a former partner of mine lashed out irrationally and even sabotaged a former project of mine. I unfortunately had to terminate said project to protect me and my other staff members that were involved due to the nature of the situation. A lack of commitment is one thing, but harassment is the type behavior I absolutely do not tolerate so I had to axe the broken catapiller leg. Will this dead project ever resurface? I have no idea, but all I know is that in all my life in this industry I have never dealt with someone that was egotistical, unprofessional and unwilling to cooperate with others. Anyway, I prefer not to go into further details since the damage is already done and would rather press on with my new ambitious endeavor. Thanks for all the support and keep it hear for more updates!
Acknowledgement from Screwattack Feliz Cinco De Mayo mi amigos! Finally, a justifiable update and it honestly blind sided me over this past weekend. The good people at Screwattack.com has selected "Man on Fire," one of the many Mega Man music videos I produced, which was featured on G1 Sunday! Let me just say that I'm a symphony of emotions from this recent news and honored that the greatness that is Stuttering Craig was captivated by my video. Check it out and drop a friendly comment. In site related news, there’s a possibility that more updates will be frequently posted considering that a certain project that was dead in the water, has resurfaced. More on that as it develops. In the meantime, assimilate your salivating video game addition to the awesomeness that is screwattack! You know, I guess this news wasn't completely unexpected considering that I received an abnormal amount of youtube subscribers in the past 24 hours =P
Twenty Seven Acknowledging that today is the anual celebration of my conception, I thought Id post an update today since alot of awesomeness has been churned out in the last month and the timing seemed appropriate. For starters, the nintendo cover band The Megas offered me a gig to produce an onslaugt of music videos for thier recently released debute album "Get Equipped." The record follows the storyline of the NES classic Mega Man II as each song journeys throughout each level and the bosses that blue bomber encounters. Some would argue that its closely related to a rock opera and being the first concepts relating to video game lore. So heres one of the many videos that you can check out on my youtube account. More should be coming off the After Effects essembly line real soon. Till then, immerse yourself into the Metal Dance and if youre a video game geek such as myself that also enjoys rock music thats of face melting caliber, then head on over to The Megas's official site for an overdose of radness!
Spring Migration
After three weeks of extensive maintenance, I'm happy to state that we're hosted on a more stable environment! During the duration, all the content has been gradually moved to the new server and thus far, I already notice a drastic improvement. So rejoice! Video lagging is no longer an issue! In addition, I'm elated to announce that I'm now offering affordable website submission! That's all for now. Embrace the initial warmth of the Spring season and see ya in April for more awesomeness!
Resuming Business Nothing much to report on the forefront, however I would like to verify that RK Dezignz is here to stay. The negotitions with the potential back office didnt pan out since it would require me to relocate to somewhere outside of the US; a committment that I'm not ready to deal with at this time. My search for full time employment has been unsaviory, but it hasn't really halted any production in regards to projects and freelancing assignments. Though I do aspire to one day branch out, my services will continue as usual providing the quality and professionalism as it has for nearly a decade. One particular project has recently been ressurected from the dead and Im excited to know that its progressing into a phase I never thought would be fathomable at this point. So that's pretty much it for this month. I'll continue to post updates as they became necessary. Until then, thanks for your ongoing support!
Existentialism In Oh Eight
In the recent weeks, I’ve been coping with a few loses that has rendered this company to a stand still. A frequent client of mine has recently departed and I am deeply saddened by their recent decision. The party has implored me not to reveal their names to the public, but all in respect, they were a contributing factor to the conception of RK Dezignz. I completely understand their situation and I sincerely wish them the best in their future endeavors. The other blow to the creative ship, was that one of my on-going projects has taken an alternative route. I received a letter via conventional mail informing me that another studio has taken helm; essentially rejecting my idea. Considering that said project was based on a copyrighted franchise, competition was inventible and I should be content with what I achieved. Whether this studio is committed, my other option lies within a direct-to-internet release. A contingency plan that I am willing to entertain no doubt. The silver screen dream is moderately existent at this point, but I’ll continue to exhaust all the possibilities that are available till it’s absolutely hopeless. The career path I still meander remains uncertain. Couple months prior, I alluded to the fact of acquiring a “back house” to outsource some of the work conducted. The deal is still pending which can ultimately change how the company will be operated. If it goes accordingly, this company will expand and handle everything more efficiently. Upgraded software, high performance equipment, and maintenance. In addition, the team will be able to handle more clients and incorporate an extensive service package; meaning RK Dezignz can possibly evolve into a big budget studio. Pipe dreams as they may seem, the other side of the coin is more polar. Throughout this decade I’ve been self-employed; freelancing from my one bedroom apartment. The profit has been stable, however entering my late 20s has encouraged me to venture out (literally) and become one with the extraverted. I already initiated the process by applying myself to various corporations and studios. Obtaining full time employment has always resonated with me and since my life is drastically changing, now would be an acceptable time to branch. If that is the case, RK Dezignz will be a place to house my own projects while the site in general will be converted into a digital portfolio. Whatever transpires during the year’s infancy, 2008 promises to be exhilarating and audacious. Keep it here for more updates and welcome to the new year!
Holiday Hiatus Probably the last update I'll be posting for awhile so here’s few quick updates. Operator11, the site that harbors both my two internet shows has been down due to reasons unknown. I'm a bit perplexed at how their staff is handling the issue. A couple people that I've contacted have yet to receive any verification weather the site is being terminated or just going through meticulous server upgrades. Unfortunately, this means that both RetroRich and Music Video Orgy will go on hiatus. During this break period, I have considered other options in continuing the shows via Youtube or just hosting directly from this site. It’s a devastating blow for the people that direct and produce shows there, but ironically, I haven't enjoyed the live aspect of the site and would much prefer filming short skits as I originally intended. It was a nice experiment and a great way to test the waters with O11's software, but I just wasn't pleased with the overall format. Whatever the case, RetroRich will return in some form. Music Video Orgy show was a fun side endeavor to play MTV VJ, however RetroRich is my primary focus and the audience I generated this fall sees high potential in its success. Pertaining to my "other" on-going project, its still being pursued but a slow pace. As the year reaches its end, it's hard to determine what creative boundaries the studio will push, but it’s possible that I might be acquiring a "back office" to assist me with future projects. In the meantime, while everything is idly sitting by as Hollywood studios continues to get bombarded with disgruntled writers, now would be an appropriate time to take a long deserved vacation to which I've already planned. Upon my return, I really hope that Hollywood will reach their agreements so everyone can resume their work yet again, including yours truly =P Even though I have the intentions to relax during the holiday season, I'm still offering my services so don't hessitate to contact me if you require a designer at this time. In closing, thank you guys for all the support and see you in oh eight!
New Additions Expect a slew of new content to appear in the "Repertoire" section as the weeks progress. I've been procrastinating for a couple months now in maintaining the archive portion of my site, but as the holidays approach it will give me time to upload some old and new projects that I've been occupied with throughout the last half of this year. Slow and steady progress is still being made in relation to my current projects, but nothing of importance is necessary to report at this juncture. Keep checking here for more updates and also tune in to watch......
Let's Roll!
It’s been awhile. A long while. In fact this is practically the longest period I’ve gone without a posting an update. I’m not the type of person that would leave any of my projects orphaned, but I was waiting for the appropriate moment to expound the events that have occurred in the months prior. During the closing weeks of August I resumed my usual regiment; aggressively endorsing this site using every method accessible. Though I have been indifferent about freelancing this year, bitter if you will, there’s a certain element to it that gives me space to be openly creative without jeopardizing my artistic integrity in a more docile atmosphere. That's all changed when I was contacted by a job recruitment site and acquired a full time position at this video production company in Oakland as a project coordinator. That’s right, employment that entails in-house production, salary base pay involving social interaction. Irrefutably a designer’s wet dream and I jumped on the opportunity as soon as it was offered. The first couple days were stressful, assimilating myself to the 9-5 schedule. What I enjoy about the position is the fact that I'm in charge. Having a team of designers that would oblige to my suggestions and ideas. Never in my life did I ever think I would be the one delegating, and having a team work on projects requiring my approval before its submitted to the client. Those childhood memories being last picked last during recess games or denied the rank of “leader” in a group project diminished. As awesome as this position was, I unfortunately had to reduce my hours and negotiate about conducting some of the work from home. The reason of course is that it conflicted with my insanely busy schedule and I felt it was the feasible route to take to stay balanced. One of my current projects, namely RetroRich has proven to be a time consuming effort and it's possible that it might be going on hiatus sometime due to the overwhelming stock pile of work that requires my attention. I'm hoping squeeze out 3 more episodes before I put the show on hold, so stay tuned for that. In relation to my employment, most jobs would immediately terminate someone for making such a compromise, but the people at my work are really flexible and for that I humbly extend my gratitude. Within my given time, I'm still offering my freelance services to those that consult in my provisions. All things considered, conveying the responsibility and professionalism of a director has really set the bar high for my future endeavors, which coincidently segues into my next topic. Studio pitches. Yeah, as redundant as that’s been I can finally sigh relief knowing that two of the studios that I recently pitched at expressed a high interest in my film. What made the situation go from mundane to WTF, is that one of my presentations transformed into a job interview. The feeling was indescribable when the compliments of my creative talent were showered upon me. The same can be said from studio number 2. So as of now, a potential job is pending for me in So Cal. Hopefully the verdict will be made soon since the suspense is killing me. Getting back on track here, my movie itself has migrated to the next stage of development. In other words, it’s been getting a ton of positive reactions to the point where it’s inevitable that the approval process may happen. Then again, the glass for me has always been half full so it makes me wonder how this will all pan out. One thing is certain though, it’s a great satisfaction to know that I’ve returned from LA victorious instead defeated. So what’s the next stage of action? Playing the waiting game =P
The Three Prong Approach Despite the scorching heat the Bay Area has been subjected to, I’ve been occupying myself with a couple new and old endeavors. First off, the movie pitches are still happening, but not as frequent. Even though various studios expressed an interest, I'm still waiting on a solidified answer on its approval. Hopefully within the Fall season, the responses should start rolling in, so Ill try to provide detail on that when necessary.. I'm still freelancing, but not as often knowing the dry spell I’ve hit this month. Work is still available, but the compensation is just barely satisfying. I have been applying myself to in-house studios and graphic firms, but I have yet to receive any replies. Still, I persist in my job hunt and remain positive that something will come my way eventually. Now for the exciting the news. I'm developing my own show called RetroRich! That’s right, a TV show that delves into the forgotten abyss of yesteryear and uncovers it's lost relics. In other words, it’s a show about 80s/90s nostalgia! The show is still in its outline phase and I plan to be filming skits pertaining to the episodic topics Ill be discussing. It will be broadcasted live through a site called www.operator11.com The direction I’m taking this in is more on the lines of a skit comedy show combined with chatroom interaction where the viewers can have in depth conversations relating to the subject matter. Each show will cover a specific topic such as Video Games, Music, Technology, Movies, Cartoons and much more. I intend for the format to be fun and interactive. The amount of work ive been engulfed with has been overwhelming, so I hope it’s a project I can do in the long run just for entertainment purposes. That’s all for now, so keep checking here for more updates ...And The Pitches Keep On Coming I found myself returning to the Los Angeles area delivering pitch presentations to various studios. This time around, my agenda was more occupied while my schedule was condensed. Though no real verdict has been announced in relation to my film, I shall persist in my goal until I recieve that flashing green light. I wish I had more to contribute to this month's post, but there's really nothing relevant to mention at this juncture. But hey, a new update is better than nothing right? Though I have been treking to LA during my spare time, I'm still able to provide my services as much as I can.
On the Lot The future looks bright for RK Dezignz! This month has been really busy for me since one of my films was acknowledged at one of the prestigious hollywood studios in Los Angeles. I immediately flew there to make a pitch presentation and I must say that I never thought I'd achieve such an accolade. I was honored just to be on the soil since everywhere I went, was like a stroll through cinematic history. Now, It's hard to determine at this point weather my film is going to be produced, but my over all delivery seemed to have impressed everyone in the board room. So perhaps that's an indication that something good will transpire, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. In relation, myself and a friend of mine collaborated on a couple posters that turned out awesome and asethetically pleasing. As much as I would love to share them on my portfolio and DA site, I was emplored to keep everything confidential till authorized. Hopefully, all will be revealed sometime this year, but until then a tight lid is placed on it. The seed has been planted, so I'll just stand back and watch it grow!
Data Recovery/Summer Aspirations If you’re able to read this, then the new server switch was successful. The provider that hosts this site has assured me that the server will operate more efficiently with the added benefits of reduced loading time and more importantly, an affordable cost. Unfortunately, some data was lost especially in the news section thus explaining the absense of the previous entries. When I inquired about the missing file to DONE.CA, they informed that it was irretrievable. So if you’re wondering why I haven’t posted anything in awhile, there's your explanation. While I gradually attempt to restore the site to its original state, I do have a few exciting updates I'd like to share. In the interim, I've been scouring the interweb for alternative employment opportunities, meaning there's a slight possibility that RK Dezignz will experience an extended hiatus. I came to this decision a few weeks ago, realizing how introverted and secluded I've become. This company has always been a one-man-operation and its success was contributed to my motivation and passion that made it thrive all these years. I'm not implying that I'm departing from the company all together, but I do have the intentions of exploring new avenues that don't involve "work-at-home" contracting, but more of a welcoming atmosphere where I can converse with fellow co-workers and earn a stable paycheck. Weather or not I attain employment elsewhere doesn’t mean that RK Dezignz will be abandoned completely. However, I am considering about converting it into a simple portfolio site where my work will be periodically posted. Till that day comes, I'll still be here to offer my services. Summer is around the corner, and I just want to dive into a pool that I hope is filled with water. See ya in June!
